Marketing careers

First of all, if you are looking to work at thinktank in the Manchester marketing team you prove you have the ability to advise and convince the boardroom of a PLC - and that takes some real skill. And, you need to be able to demonstrate that you know your subject and have a demonstrable ability to consult, advise, develop a client business, plus have the skills to work at the very highest levels in at least two distinct disciplines within your field. And, as clients look for us for guidance, you'll need to either provide convicing references which stack up, or be able to show that you are the brightest in your field technically, with the very highest level of communication skills to convince a senior management team.

If you've not quite there yet but are looking to work within the marketing field, we would advise you to think about exactly what you want to do before applying for any company. We say this because we receive so many communications from individuals with plenty of talent, who profess to want to work in in the creative, analytical, promotional, PR and every other discipline within marketing: we know that you're keen to learn and get your foot on the ladder, but you should also play to your core strengths and think about what you want a little more before contacting a prospective employer. For example, if you want to work in a position that is client facing then you are going to need really good people and communication skills. Other positions may require more technical prowess that interpersonal ability, so it pays to know what your strengths are.

Strategy and planning are totally different to promotional marketing. If you are looking to work in-house with a company then that's a completely different ball game to working with a marketing agency. Don't be afraid to try and offer your time for work-experience, however we don't accept applications for work experience at this time. Try to call local companies and offer your time for free for a few months, to get yourself off the mark.

Once you have experience then you really can fly. We all had to start somewhere - marketing is worth the effort, but decide what you want to do first and play to your strengths. That's our advice - over to you and good luck!

We do employ work experience for our film crews in non-key roles, but it's on an ad-hoc basis and may involve some level of travel in the UK or internationally - often at a moments notice, so you will need a valid passport, hold a UK driving licence and be able to pass a DBS check.

For production team or crew members, when the need arises, we only employ seasoned professionals and we expect you will need to demonstrate that you have television broadcast work and/or high-profile corporte client project work in your portfolio. We provide a full in-house service for clients, so we don't generally offer freelance crew employment on short term roles, unless we are so busy that we need extra support.
